Trip to Masai Mara
We were able to travel to the Masai Mara game reserve last weekend down in the valley below us. It is about a 5 hour trip by road, because the roads are in really poor condition. We traveled by vans with 3 other families. We hired Kenyan drivers, which was nice because some parts of the road were quite challenging to drive on. We had a nice trip and saw lot of animals. We stayed in a tented camp called Siana Springs just outside the reserve. We were able to visit a Masai village as well, which was very interesting. They are the only Kenyan tribe that has completely maintained their traditional lifestyle and dress. The kids were good little travelers, and Torsten really liked sleeping in a tent. Some of the Masai came to our camp to do some traditional Masai dancing, and Thor jumped right in and joined them. They are known for their jumping ability.
The game reserve was very similar to the Serengeti in Tanzania. There were many beautiful views of typical African landscape. The sunsets were really beautiful also.
