The power of prayer
When I went into work this morning, one of the nurses said that a patient was looking for me and wanted to talk to me. When I went up to this patient, she asked me if I remembered her. I had no idea who she was, so I asked her to remind me. After she told me her story and I looked at her file, I recalled that I had seen her once several months ago as a patient in the gynecology clinic. She and her husband (a pastor at a church in the valley below us) had come in then because they had been married for many years and had been unable to have any children. She had had some tests run that showed blockage in both of her tubes, of a type that surgery couldn't fix. So, I really had nothing to offer her medically, except to refer her for in vitro fertilization in Nairobi. However, that is very pricey, and this couple already knew that they couldn't afford that. So, she basically had no options left for treatment and her odds of conceiving on her own were near zero. So, as I often do when there is nothing else we can do, I asked her if I could pray for her and prayed that God would bless her with a child if that was His will. So, this morning she was very excited to let me know that she is now pregnant! She is absolutely convinced that my prayer for her is the reason she has conceived, and she kept thanking me. Of course, I know that God could certainly have blessed her in this way with or without my prayer, but it is nice to get to be a part of a blessing in someone else's life.

I was wondering the other day how you guys were doing and when you'd post again. So it's lovely to see three posts!
And this one is really awesome! I can only imagine the happiness the patient must feel and how blessed you must feel to be a part of it.
Wow! That's really wonderful. I think God blessed your humility that as a doctor, there are times when there is nothing else you can do, and you turn to God at that point in prayer.
