We just returned from our 2 week vacation to South Africa. All went well (mostly), and we had a really nice time there. We spent our first week way out in the wilderness of the Waterberg area in north South Africa (about a 4 hour drive north of Johannesburg). We were truly out in the middle of nowhere. To get to even a small convenience store was a one hour drive away. We stayed at a private game reserve where Thor was able to do some plains game hunting. He got an impala, zebra, and a bush pig, for which he was happy. The kids and I had a nice time relaxing at the swimming pool there and taking walks around the grounds. We stayed in a guest house connected to the main house on the reserve. It actually was a relaxing vacation for me as there was no where to have to go, no sightseeing to do, and no meals to prepare. Usually on our vacations, we're trying to get in as much sightseeing as possible, which is interesting, but not really relaxing. We did go to a nearby game park called Lapalala Game Reserve where we were able to see all kinds of animals like zebra, giraffe, and rhinocerus. We also visited a rhinocerus museum, where we were able to pet and hand feed a rhinocerus. Other than that, we pretty much did nothing. Torsten and I went along on one of Thor's hunts, just to see what it was like.
